million dollar website

Ever wonder how you could make money from the web? How about advertising on your Web-site? No, not Google Adsence, Yahoo’s Search Marketing or Banner ads, but how about selling pixels. How about selling one-million square pixels at a dollar a pixel?

Well one entrepreneurial man by the name of Alex Tew did just that. And he made a million dollars! This was all to help the 21 year-old British college student pay for college. He sold ads as small as 100 pixels up to 10,000 pixels in size. I return for the ad placement, Tews website would host each ad for 5 years. A bargain for Tew who is now planning a $2-a-pixel site.

As for the way the site looks… well it looks similar to a University Posting board. Cluttered and to me annoying. But this idea was very intuitive, and the first in, now a long list of $1-a-pixel websites.

I remember when this site first started out. We did an interview with him when he sold like $15,000 worth of ad space. He did some great viral marketing along with some nice press release submissions. 🙂

Cool blog, Brad. How about a posting explaining the difference between designing blogs and websites? I’m serious.
